Story: This artwork was inspired by Maria Sibylla Merian, a pioneer i art, science, and business.  she is considered to be  among the most significant contributors to the field of entomology and one of the foremost female scientists of the 17th century.  From an early age Merian was an accomplished painter of flowers and insects and an entomologist, possessing  great ability to move between art and science.  Fusing artistic endeavour and nature observation, her fascinating painting defied Victorian categorisation.  They are fitting monument to such an unusual figure whose life, too, was a blaze of color making her one of the greatest artist-naturalist of her time.
