A Room With A View

Peter Perez Los Angeles-based figurative painter and sculptor whose work explores the areas of the human condition through the relationships built upon primarily male models exploring gay themes including the voyeur, poverty, idolatry, obsession, dandyism and sexuality as a commodity. Primarily working with the male model Peter has dedicated nearly 10 years revitalizing the discipline of figure drawing originally introduced to him through university level academic training. Through his dedication to consistent and constant drawing sessions exclusively with live models, usually three hours at a time Peter has firmly grounded his work in the arena of representation through the hunting of the perfect pose. His drawings are the foundation to all his paintings and multi-media works. 

In the years between 2013 to the present Peter has been building on an idea of a show that explored urban stories through the study of subjects encountered on-line, grinder, bars or parks. Quickly what was the original idea of a “Van Nuys Boy Show” became more into a discipline of drawing traditionally (charcoal, conte crayon, Pastel etc..). The development of the drawings into paintings than moved the conversation into abstraction. The “Van Nuys Boy Show” stories became secondary and incidental in the body of work this show represents. The real story is Peter’s development as an artist grappling with the temptations of completely diving into abstraction.
