Collection: Rex Wilder
Bold regal captures of exquisite wildlife birds photographed in their natural habitats depicting hope, joy, resilience and peace.
Rex Wilder is a representative of the New Pictorialist movement, which looks at photography as a springboard to traditional art.
As a New Pictorialist, Wilder believes, as Stieglitz did nearly a hundred years ago, that the image should be an aesthetic symbolic record of a scene plus the artist’s personal comment and interpretation, capable of transmitting an emotional response to the mind of a receptive spectator.
Wilder is also a lauded poet with four books and hundreds of both magazine and anthology appearances to his credit. A fifth book, A Quiet Place to Land, combines his images and his verbal reflections. In it he explores the process of recovery from serious mental illness and exhumes hope from the wilderness around him. He is now Chair of the Board of Governors at The Maple Counseling Center in Los Angeles.
If a work by Rex Wilder takes your breath away, a moment in its presence will leave you wondering what’s next.
